Vacancy: Assistant Director (Economics)

Applications are invited for an Assistant Director (Economics) at the Global Priorities Institute (GPI) to manage and drive the delivery of the Institute’s economics research. Reporting to the Director of the Global Priorities Institute, the postholder will provide intellectual leadership, conduct advanced research in economics, and manage other members of the economics research team, coordinating the research projects and topics of the wider group. The post is fixed-term from the date of appointment for four years.
The Global Priorities Institute is an interdisciplinary research centre, which aims to develop and promote rigorous, scientific approaches to the question of how appropriately motivated actors can do good more effectively. GPI formally sits within the Faculty of Philosophy at Oxford University. You will be a member of GPI’s economics research team and an Associate Member of the Department of Economics, one of the world’s leading economics departments. You will be based at the Global Priorities Institute and you will have a desk at the Economics Department in the Manor Road Building as well as at GPI’s offices. Your research will be on topics directly relevant to the Global Priorities Institute’s research agenda, which you will be involved in setting.
Applicants are required to have a PhD awarded either in Economics or in a closely related discipline together with equivalent experience and expertise in Economics and significant post-qualification research experience. The applicant needs to have experience in independent research, outstanding academic ability, and an excellent track record in producing research suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Also essential are significant specialist knowledge of the aspects of the Global Priorities Research Institute’s research agenda that relate to academic economics, an excellent ability to motivate and manage research teams, the ability to deliver excellent research supervision and experience in engaging with external academics at various levels of academic seniority.

The position is full-time with the University of Oxford. Visa support is available for successful applicants from overseas.
