Embracing diversity
GPI cares deeply about diversity and inclusion. We want everyone to feel welcome at GPI regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability status, form of neurodivergence, age, and national origin. We not only welcome, but also value diversity. We think that global priorities are best shaped through dialogue across a diverse range of viewpoints, and we appreciate the opportunity to learn from those with different experiences and understandings.
One of our core aspirations is to increase GPI’s diversity. We welcome people from all backgrounds in any form of engagement with GPI, ranging from an expressions of interest in future collaboration to an application for employment at GPI.
We follow university and departmental policies designed to create a welcoming workplace for all and take these policies seriously. For example, GPI is committed to the university policies on family leave, harassment, support for transgender staff and staff with disabilities, as well as to the SWIP/BPA Good Practice Scheme. We take staff welfare seriously, and monitor it through regular check-ins and an annual climate survey.
We recognise the need for continued improvement around climate and diversity. GPI is committed to taking active steps to make GPI and global priorities research more inclusive and welcoming. We actively emphasize diversity in recruitment, and have run a range of workshops aimed at supporting underrepresented students and researchers.
We believe it is important to continue taking concrete steps to improve the diversity of GPI and global priorities research. Update January 2023: In light of recent events involving a prominent member of the Oxford University Faculty of Philosophy, GPI affirms its above commitment to diversity and inclusion. We condemn racism of all forms and support the statement of the Philosophy Faculty Board on the matter.
